Not all CaPR puppies become CaPR service dogs.  Despite the best efforts of our Puppy Raisers, some dogs are not destined for service work.  Dogs are released for two reasons -- temperament issues and medical issues.  Dogs that are released from the CaPR service dog program usually are placed in other working roles or are adopted by the Puppy Raiser; however, occasionally dogs are available for adoption by the general public.

People who want to adopt a released dog must complete a Released Dog Application.  When a dog enters the Released Dog Program, all applications are reviewed to determine the best placement for that particular dog.  The adopting family is always told why the dog is being released.  There is an adoption fee for this type of placement.  The current fee is $1,000.
